NEW DELHIpokerungar, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Indian authorities have recalled non-essential staff and their families of its high commission and consulates in neighbouring Bangladesh, local media reports quoting government sources said Wednesday.

"All non-essential staff and their families from the Indian High Commission in Dhaka have been evacuated. The High Commission is currently operating with a skeletal staff," a local television news channel NDTV quoting sources said.

Officials said all Indian diplomats remain in Bangladesh and the missions are functional.

India has a huge presence in Bangladesh. Apart from its high commission in Dhaka, India has consulates spread across the country in cities like Chattogram, Sylhet, Rajshahi and Khulna.

The Indian staff evacuation occurred as Sheikh Hasina resigned Monday from her post as Bangladesh's prime minister amid protests.
